Our Roots

Realistically we can trace our roots back to the Province of Staffordshire in 1834 with the formation of St. Peter’s Lodge No. 607 (later 419) in Wolverhampton. This was followed in 1842 by St. James’ Lodge No. 707 (later 482). There is also evidence of connections with Noah’s Ark Lodge No.347 (originally 668), holding a warrant dated 1815.

The Lodge of Charity No 1551. (our Mother Lodge) was formed from St. James’ Lodge (see above). Now meeting at Stirling Road in Edgbaston, it was consecrated in 1875 and later produced four Daughters and a Granddaughter all of which are currently active.

The first Daughter was Yenton Lodge (No. 3484) which meets in Erdington and was  consecrated in 1910. The second being the Lodge of Faith and Hope (No.4772) which was consecrated in 1925, the Golden Jubilee of Charity. This Lodge subsequently sponsored it’s own daughter, the Lodge of Happiness (No.7952), in 1964. The third Daughter being our own, the Lodge of Assembly (No. 5747), consecrated in 1938 which is now celebrating it’s seventieth birthday. In 1945 Edgbaston Lodge, which was the fourth Daughter, was consecrated. All the above Lodges, with the exception of Yenton meet at Stirling Road in Edgbaston.

A number of our founder members were members of the Lodge of Charity and also founders of some of the Daughter Lodges.  The Lodge of Assembly retains a good relationship with our Mother and Sister Lodges and the Brethren are always happy to visit and receive visitors be it from our own close family or the wider family of Freemasonry. Our hope for the future is that we can build on this strong relationship and encourage even closer ties for the mutual support and benefit of all.
